The April showers are just around the corner....
My friends and I stood at the classroom window, pressing our little noses against the glass-praying for a break in those big, nasty clouds that poured the rain down on our playground. This is of course where we learned the little rhyme, "April showers bring May flowers." I'm not so sure we wanted flowers as much as we wanted slides and swings.
The little rhyme can be traced all the way back to the 1500's--and some speculate it could go back even farther. In 1557, Mr. Thomas Tusser compiled a collection of writings called: A Hundred Good Points of Husbandry. His April compilation included:
Sweet April showers
Do spring May flowers
A gentle reminder to us all that our days of looming clouds, thunderstorms and of course, 'humidity hair,' will yield us brighter days and sweeter things just around the corner!
